Tracing Place was presented as part of Geelong Design Week in 2022. Produced by Artistic Director Joel Zika and Collide Public Arts, the work brought together our multidisciplinary practices of sculpture, sound, spoken word, photography and painting. The interactive installation utilised a 4-metre atomised water screen that responded in real time to field recordings of local soundscapes, including natural sounds and summer thunderstorms. The recordings captured the changing sounds of the local environment and became an integral part of the immersive experience. This innovative technology offered a new way of considering how art can be experienced, interacted with and designed for public space. The installation brought the sounds and atmospheric qualities of the surrounding natural environment into the heart of the city, creating a space where technology, nature and the built environment could intersect.
