Lucy Allinson has been making art for as long as she can remember, spending weekends drawing from her favourite book, How to Draw Sea Life and picking up the paint brush where she could. From an early age, she knew she would become an artist, and that early curiosity has continued to shape the way she now observes, listens to, and responds to the world around her.

She is a multidisciplinary artist working across sound, painting, photography, sculpture, and installation. Her practice is grounded in acoustic ecology, with a focus on how we experience place through sound and how those soundscapes are shifting over time. Lucy’s work often explores the tension between urban and natural environments, particularly the growing presence of noise pollution and how it disrupts birdsong.

Through field recording and spatial installation, Lucy investigates the balance between human and non-human systems. Her work is underpinned by a deep concern for the future of these landscapes. She considers the possibility that, if environmental degradation continues, natural ecosystems may one day need to be reconstructed or simulated inside. Through her practice, Lucy invites audiences to slow down, listen more closely, and reflect on their own relationship to sound and the environments they inhabit.

Lucy completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at Monash University in 2018, followed by Honours in Sound Art at RMIT University in 2019. In 2021, she undertook a seven-month residency at Platform Arts in Geelong, where she now works as Assistant Curator and Gallery Technician. She also began working at Geelong Gallery in 2021, and in late 2024 commenced her role as an Exhibition Technician at ACMI. While also working as a sole trader through Exhibition Installation and Interior Painting among workshops and the occasional mentoring.
