Far Beyond Our Streets

Off the Kerb Gallery, Collingwood, Melbourne

7th May- 21st May, 2026

Far Beyond Our Streets presents a series of lush, painterly works that explore the tonal range of green found within these landscapes, accompanied by two sound compositions drawn from field recordings collected in the Lorne Otways between 2021 - 2026. Together, these works immerse the viewer in an environment that exists both visually and sonically, inviting a deeper awareness of place. The title speaks to distance—suggesting that such rich, thriving ecosystems are no longer easily accessible within our everyday urban surroundings, but instead require travel far beyond them. While this exhibition celebrates the vitality of national parklands and the ecosystems that still endure, it also quietly points to what has been diminished within our cities. It asks the viewer to consider what is no longer present, and how far we must now go to experience these environments. How far will we need to travel in the future to reach such an atmosphere? And could there come a time when these environments are no longer experienced in the wild, but instead recreated indoors?Far Beyond Our Streets highlights landscapes that remain—places of refuge that require ongoing protection from noise pollution and other forms of environmental pressure—while reinforcing the delicate balance between human activity and the natural world.
